Tidbits of Revolution Trickle from Leipzig Transcripts
While I already reported that no new Revolution info came from the Leipzig Games Convention, I did manage to find out that it was at least mentioned. After reading through transcripts of the event I have come across these quotes from Bernd Fakesch, General Manager of Nintendo of Europe. First off, a trailer was shown that documented Nintendo's past achievements in the gaming world. At the end of the trailer the word Revolution was shown with the year 2006. As for actual quotes, Mr. Fakesch had this to say.
"In the console market, beginning in 2006 our wi-fi capable flagship Revolution will set new landmarks. By 'expanding the definition of gaming' we don't only mean an advance towards new limits of gaming, but also to new potential players. We want to win over new people and inspire them, those who have never thought about taking a controller into their hands -- more girls, young women, adults, and also elderly players. Certainly in the process we won't neglect the fan community. Germany needs new kinds of games and Nintendo is certainly the company that is best-suited to supply them. We hold a unique position in the market. We are among the worldwide leading hardware manufacturers and at the same time we are among the leading software developers. And that's both for handhelds and home consoles. Additionally, we have decades of experience where we have focused our entire know-how on the content of games and gaming fun."
"The Revolution will utilize a large number of novelties"
Your guess is as good as mine when it comes to this second statement. Novelties could mean anything from how the controller functions, to online functions, to game ideas, to peripherals, to any number of things. Now for the last statement, which is by far the best news heard on the Revolution yet.
"The only thing I can tell you is that very soon there will be important news about Revolution."
Lets hope that by soon Mr. Fakesch means within the next two weeks as I have guessed. Looks like Mr. Casamassina over at IGN definately is in the know. I will keep scanning the transcripts, but from what I can see that is all that was said about the Revolution. While no new information was given at all, its good to hear that Revolution at least was the topic of some discussion.

All I know is that everytime I hear Michel Ancel's name I wanna cry. The poor guy waits his whole career to make Beyond Good & Evil, and it sells like crap. Its one of my top 10 games of all time. I am so sad to see that there probably wont ever be a sequel, and also sad that his life long dream fell apart when it came to sales. I still dont get it. I am buying King Kong because it looks amazing, but moreso because Mr. Ancel and his BG&E team did all the work...well them and some other people too. As far as the quote you showed me that either Ancel has seen what Nintendo has to offer, or is just guessing because he has seen what Sony and Microsoft have to offer...then again maybe he just isnt considering the Revolution as a factor and completely ignored it. Id probably go with him having seen it, or at least knowing it will be different.
that doesn't sound to me as he had seen the revolution. but it's nice to hear there are still developers that do care for new ideas! the big ones don't really imo. (I can't help but being pessimistic all the time... which is good as I can only be positively surprised ;)
