A Messageboard Post of a Different Sort

Wow, this is really...refreshing. A mysterious post showed up over at the zogdog messageboards. Someone by the name of Reality101 posted a very well written, eloquently drafted messageboard post. The topic is of course the Nintendo Revolution, but not what you would expect from a typical post. This guy/girl doesn't claim to know anything new about the Revolution, they just want to put what is going on into perspective. You get the impression from the post that REALITY101 may know something, but isn't letting on. On the other hand the post can be taken as a Nintendo fan speaking his thoughts, and reassuring everyone that their trust in Nintendo is valid. Regardless of what REALITY101 actually knows, his post is a wonderful read, and is a welcome change from the Seriousgamer style posts out there. Check out the whole post below.

Some of you are reluctant to believe any of the things that you have heard regarding the mysterious Nintendo "Revolution" game console. Many of you are angry that Nintendo has not been more forthcoming with information. But *ALL* of you, my fellow Nintendo fans, can finally breathe the great sigh of relief that you so rightfully deserve. The time has come to soothe your fears, and to ease your anxiety. Now is the time to put an end to the rumors propagated by bloggers who have lured you into believing that the Revolution is something that it is not. Now, my dear friends, is the moment of truth. And the truth you shall finally have.

Make no mistake: some of what you have heard is accurate. Nintendo is working on a system that will forever change the face of gaming. The Revolution will be unlike anything you have seen before. Your jaw will drop in disbelief the moment that its simplistic elegance is revealed to you. The possibilities will have your mind racing, and this is precisely the effect that Nintendo has worked so hard to ensure. Nintendo has created a system that will give you -- the gamer -- the tools that you need to let your imagination run wild. Current console technology can not offer you this experience. You are trapped in a box, so to speak. With the Revolution, the boundaries have been removed. The name is symbolic: a wheel revolves, and a wheel has no edges. Think of a circle, and you will quickly grasp the idea. The Revolution has no boundaries. You can truly begin to think - and play - "outside the box."

You want details. I understand this. But your desire is misguided, because you are thinking of video game consoles in the traditional sense. How many polygons/sec can be rendered? How fast is the processor? How much memory? None of these details are relevant to the Revolution. It is a whole new gaming experience, and discussion of petty technical jargon is meaningless in this new context. You will see that what I am saying is the truth when you are presented with the finished product. For now, I can only ask that you trust me. I will, however, make you this simple promise: You will not be disappointed.

Most of the weblogs and other sources of misinformation circulating around the Internet are patently false. There is absolutely no validity to the claims of many who pretend to know specific details about the Revolution. Do not fall into the trap of believing them, no matter how credible they may seem. When the Revolution is finally revealed to you, Nintendo's president Mr. Iwata will proudly take the stage to demonstrate the new technology. But you must believe me - it would be a pity if details of the Revolution were made public prematurely. The video game industry is not only competitive - it is cutthroat. There are "predators" -- if I may label them as such -- who would stop at nothing to steal the ideas that will make the Revolution so successful. As a Nintendo fan, I certainly do not want that to happen. I know what the Revolution is capable of, and I want Nintendo (and only Nintendo!) to receive full credit for their amazing accomplishments.

I know that this simple post will not change the world. The rumors and speculation will continue to proliferate within the bowels of the Internet. But I know that I will sleep well at night knowing that Nintendo has created something profound. I can sleep well at night because I know that video games are on the cusp of entering a dimension that remains totally unexplored. I wake up each morning with the knowledge that I am one day closer to experiencing this technology for myself. I urge you, my fellow gamers, to have patience. Do not be tempted, lest you be fooled. Give Nintendo their breathing space, and soon a breath of fresh air will be upon us. History DOES repeat itself. And a Revolution is at hand.

Nice dig Rawmeat. Funny how we're so enthralled with the Revolution we're even quoting message board posts! :) But in all honesty, it's well written.
